Family Dinner(s)

It looks like Tracy hasn’t found her way to the blog yet, but she is trying to set up some family dinners.  I got an email from her yesterday and it looks like she’s planning two dinners, so thought I would give her a hand and post them here as well.

The first dinner is September 13 at Little Italy, the next is at the Outback on September 27, both are scheduled for 6:00PM.  Let her know if you can make it for one or both.  She’s made reservations for 4 people each day, but will change them if need be.  Her contact info is in the blogs address book.

Hope to see you there!

edit: I had erroneously had the first dinner as being on September 19, it is in fact on the 13th.  Thanks to Bim for pointing out the typo.

Fairbanks happenings

Things are getting busy here in Fairbanks…  Fall semester starts next week and this weekend I’m going on a 4 day geology fieldtrip to the Brooks Range.  Hopefully the weather stays nice.  I’ve never been to that part of the state before and I’m excited to get a chance to camp and hike up there (and look at the geology!).  We’re going to be camping at Galbraith Lake and doing a day hike to explore Atigun Gorge.  There are about 30 people going, so it should be really fun.  I’ll post some pictures when I get back.  Other than that, I’m quitting my job next week, taking one class this fall while working on my thesis, starting to apply for jobs for next summer, and volunteering as an advisor for my sorority chapter on campus.  It should all keep me plenty busy!  Hope everyone is doing well  : )

News from Texas, first congratulations to Ben on his trip.

Breaking news here is my spanking new pacemaker, installed 7/22, home from hospital last night.  Everything went fine and I’m doing well.  Was referred to an oncologist because of inability to find reason for my anemia first week after getting home from Alaska.  First reassuring news: not leukemia.  Was 5 pints low on blood, no internal bleeding.  Diagnosis now is low kidney function due to past trauma to my system, so am getting hormone shots to help produce red blood cells.

Appears to be working, first shot three weeks ago, only four pints low now.  Got second shot on July 15th. Feeling much better.  When I visited cardiologist, pulse rate was 48 and blood pressure 100 over 40.  Pressure and pulse rate back up to normal before implant.  Now wonder if I really need it, as RC may be a thing of the past.  Oh well…  Hey I’m still alive and kicking, once I get a full supply of blood, life should be pretty much to normal again.

I’m sure you have news of the hurricane that hit Texas this week, we got a half inch of rain out of it, not much but we will take all we can get.  On the bright side, Patty doing fine except a little stressed out.  Hello to every body.

Jim

Back from our road trip

Hello everyone!

We are back from our very long road trip with the Rooster in tow. While driving on the Lincoln Highway Ben made good on a promise he made to me something like 40 years ago, he gave me a ride in his Model A Coupe! The car looks great and rides very well – this is the view of a lay person. We finished the trip with a stop in Seattle where we visited with Oliver & Angie and Henry & Julianne over the Fourth of July. We watched Jim sr.’s old 16mm movies on the garage wall and afterwards the fireworks of the city all around us.

Thanks to Kurt’s help I am able to post this . We hope everyone is well and in good spirits. Bim & Ben

Elton John

The concert was pretty good… Elton John sounded amazing live.  I was working in the balcony so I couldn’t get any really good pictures, but here is a decent one I took with my phone:

Summer plans

So… not much going on in Fairbanks.  I am volunteering at the Elton John concert tomorrow night which is kinda cool because tickets are $100 – I wouldn’t pay that much to see anyone in concert, even if Elvis himself rose from the grave – and I get to go for free, all I have to do is be an usher.  I’m heading down to Anchorage in a week and will be in town until the 19th to see the grandparents and some friends.  After that my summer is pretty much going to be research and thesis writing so that I can (finally!) get out of school by the end of the year.  I am still working at AVO, but only 10 hours a week.  Kris is pretty much working this summer and has arranged for some time off so he can play in a few golf tournaments.  He’ll be in Anchorage for a few days with me, playing golf with his dad and some of their friends.  Unfortunately he can only stay for a long weekend.
